The open position is a joint appointment by the School of Engineering Department of Real Es- tate, Planning and Geoinformatics (see http://maa.aalto.fi/en/) and the School of Electrical Engi- neering Department of Radio Science and Engineering (http://radio.aalto.fi/en/).
The Department of Real Estate, Planning and Geoinformatics covers a range of fields in survey- ing sciences including geomatics and geoinformatics. Research topics include as well methodol- ogy development as the use of space-based imagery to a variety of applications. The Depart- ment of Radio Science and Engineering remote sensing activities focus on developing space- based and air-borne microwave instruments and techniques for Earth observation applications.
The tenure track professor positions are open for talented individuals, who have either demon- strated capability or excellent potential for a successful scientific career. Individuals in the Aalto University tenure track positions have an opportunity to advance in their career through regular performance assessments, which consider merits in research, teaching, and impact within and outside the university environment.
We look for a broad-minded expert in remote sensing who is willing and able to foster active collaboration between the departments and develop joint activities both in research and in teach- ing. The applicants must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field and be able to acquire exter- nal research funding from Finnish and European sources.
The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research, teaching and academic leadership and activity in scientific community. For a tenured position, either at the full or associate level, the candidate is expected to have an outstanding track record in research in a relevant field, demonstrated considerable amount of leadership skills in the academia and/or in wider societal contexts and teaching accomplishments. For the assistant level, the demonstrated potential for high quality research and teaching is sufficient. Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities.
